edit: fixed by upgrading SDL to 1.2.11

rev270 on my kubuntu 6.10 distro toshiba a45-s1202 laptop
sdl 1.2.10 installed

however, if i 'end current session' via KDE menu or control alt backspace, the mouse starts working again (i can move the mouse again).

if i exit hwsdl, and then run hwsdl, the mouse will actually still work while hwsdl is running.

this doesn't happen with ioquake3 (it uses SDL too)

anyone had this(or similar) happen before?

edit: i'm looking over some google results.

This is known... and by me personally :)

You'll find that HWSDL is crashing just exactly on exit, and is thus leaving the mouse set at SDL's arbitrarily small tracking values.

The long term solution is to update your SDL to current.

A short term solution is to use an SDL app that grabs and releases the mouse properly. A non-HWSDL app :)

http://svn.icculus.org/lgfaq/trunk/file ... iew=markup

I compiled a modified version of that (it's minus the gamma-checking code which iwas irelevant to the mouse). That binary is available here:
