Homeworld inexorably found its way to me back in the day, & it was... a major wtf. I had hardly been exposed to RTS games in the first place, which may have contributed to HW clicking with me so well. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. It's love, I tell you!
Since then, I've grown. I've obtained a CompSci degree with no experience to merit its worth, & I've remained a gaming aficionado, albeit suffering through the changes in gaming philosophy these past generations.

I'm highly upset at the results the Remaster has presented us. I'm confident I can't be of much use, but I have passion, vision & optimism. If there's a chance, I'd like to be here to take it, to return to us the Hiigara that we envision.
To those who have been hard at work trying to do exactly this, I offer my gratitude.

Hi, welcome on board!

Yes, upset and disappointed are many about the remaster...but the relic source code gives us the chance to do something! Backporting the HW1R assets into HW SDL, could be the best of both worlds. :)
Porting the remastered assets into the HW SDL engine (to fix the engine errors of remastered) could need some help and work in the modding & format conversation domain.

Here is already ongoing work in the relic forum....

I'd like to read more on the differences between the HW1SDL & HW2 engines, to get a grasp of what limitations backporting would have, if you have any documentation I can read. For that matter, I'm unaware of the differences between HW1 & the SDL engines, aside from cross-platform compatibility, if there are any.

In general the Gearbox HW1 classic engine and the HW SDL engine should be mostly compatiblem while some windows & x86 stuff was changed/removed for compatiblity with other platforms.

About the different capabilities, these should be reflected by the different data formats:
It seems the HW1 decrypter was finished

...also a HW2 decrypter and the GBX tool HODOR were released ... so comparision & analysis of the data files are possible now.
