Should rgl be deprecated in Homeworld SDL?

Simple enough question, and one oft-debated here in the past.

The arguments for removing it are the fact that hardware and software interfaces are far more standardized than in the ancient days when Honeworld was originally coded, and that rgl is a proprietary way of handling many things that are now handled by standard interfaces like SDL and OpenGL.

Homeworld SDL doesn't use D3D...

(although that could be added later by somebody interested in it)

... nor does rgl currently provide a working software renderer in the SDL port. OpenGL does provide such a software renderer.
