Since I'm currently changing my repo to work with cmake (for yet another variant of hwsdl) I was wondering whether it would make sense to switch all the different build systems to work with one cross platform one.
Personally I would go with cmake, a possible alternative would be scons - but I have very little experience with it (and most of it was bad).

Any opinions?

Interestingly I ended up using SCons due to severe limitations and uglyness of Makefile based systems. And having the power of a programming language is nice, too.

I must admit I'm not familiar with any of them. Just curious, what are the advantages over make?

They can safely perform multiple operations in paralell due to some dependency tracking? Cmake accepts parameters, it's more like replacement to ./configure scripts I'd say.

GNU make can build in parallel with the -j option. Safe as long as your makefile is safely written, i.e., specifies dependencies correctly.
